Makeup on my mind |Powders per oz, Sunset palettes, & Sunday Riley

For today’s post I wanted to just talk about makeup.  I think about makeup a lot… so I thought it would be fun to hang out here and write it all down.   Hope you’re having a great hump day and the rest of your week flies by!

I recently did a Sephora order that showed as delivered… but wasn’t.  I was a little freaked out and contacted customer service.  To my surprise they immediately reshipped it out to me! I was not expecting that kind of a quick response and it made my day.

setting powder

I had ordered the new Urban Decay Velvetizer powder and the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Filtered Light Setting Powder. I plan on using the Velvetizer as a last step over my blush, bronzer, and t-zone to lock everything in and take away shine. It is meant for mixing in with foundations but the texture looks amazing as a SUPER- mattifying powder. I will report back on how well it works both ways.

The Tarte setting powder is a replacement for my Laura Mercier Translucent powder. I’ve been out for so long and turning to my RCMA No Color Powder that I love.  This one is great for everyday and is reliable to keep me matte without creating a weird texture on my face. I was just curious about the Tarte powder because I have liked Tarte products a lot recently.  I feel dumb now though, because I went to compare it to the price of the Laura Mercier and… you get .35 oz in Tarte vs. 1 oz of LM for the SAME PRICE (give or take a few dollars). Such a rip off and it would have to be life changing to justify that cost. Once I get it I’ll be returning the powder because of that and sticking to RCMA for now.  At 3 oz for $21 it’s a much better deal and now I see that! I look at the price per ounce when I grocery shop and I need to remember apply it to cosmetics too. Coty Airspun powder is on my wishlist to try too!

Moving on to other products, I got a sample of Sunday Riley C.E.O. moisturizer a few weeks ago from a Sephora order and it broke my heart. I hate HATE HATE that I absolutely love a $65 product that I’d run through in a month.  It gives just the right amount of hydration without feeling greasy and is the perfect face lotion for morning or night. I refuse to buy a full size though, my wallet can’t handle that!  All I need now is an alternative for the C.E.O. Moisturizer. My dream product would be something affordable, a large bottle, full of Vitamin C, hydrating, and come in two formulas with and without SPF for morning or night. Is that too much to ask? Yeah.  Also I’d like it to have a pump. Fingers crossed. subq anti age

I have heard amazing things about the Sunday Riley Good Genes and was able to find sort of a dupe/ alternative to getting it (with the help of this blog)- the Mad Hippie Exfoliating Serum and The Ordinary Hylamide Subq.  Both had great reviews and I am liking them both so far.  I’ll be talking about them more in a skincare routine post coming soon!  I read that spearmint tea helps heal/ prevent acne too so that may be my next skincare related purchase. I currently have tea bags and spearmint capsules in my Amazon cart.

Another product that recently came up as I scrolled through instagram is the new Urban Decay Naked Heat palette. Every brand needs a peachy red Too Faced Peach Palette/ ABH Modern Renaissance competitor I guess, and this one is really pretty. The Naked 1 palette was my first non-drugstore eyeshadow quad palette and it held a special place in my heart until I got rid of it earlier this year. The Naked 3 was pretty but a little chalky, and I won’t be picking Heat up.  I’m holding out for the Sephora Pro Pigment Warm Palette that comes out later this month- June 21st I think. Sephora Collection always kills it and impresses the hell out of me so I’m looking forward to it.  It looks like a great alternative to the Natasha Denona Sunset palette that is STUNNING but expensive.

The last product I wanted to mention is the Kylie In Love With the Koko Lip Set that came out a week or so ago. Khloe is my favorite Kardashian and the color Bunny (mauve purple) and Doll (tangerine red) were pretty tempting to me. The Kylie lip kit formula isn’t my favorite but I can be swayed with the right color. I recently talked about my hunt for the brightest possible red lip and I went with Colourpop Little Weapon. It’s a hot pink red that I love. Kylie Doll is more neon orange red and I may pick up those two shades if they ever release in single form.

That’s all for now. Thanks for reading!

When I was looking for a new loose setting powder last summer, I compared price to how much product you get. And I ended up getting the Dermablend which gives you the same amount of product as the Laura Mercier but costs around $10 less. But then I picked up the Ben Nye no color powder at The Makeup Show. I got 1.5 oz for $6, which was the show discount price. It normally retails for $8 for that size, which is still a steal! And 3 oz is just $11! And it’s really good!

Oh you have to try the Coty Airspun! You get so much for like $6. A jar will last me for almost a year!

The Sephora palette looks beautiful and sure beats paying the insane price of a Natasha Denona palette!!
