I’m lazy when it comes to Halloween, usually just throwing on a pair of cat ears. This year I did my favorite costume I have ever put together. I was Harry Potter, and I wanted to share how I did it!
The idea came about because I have a pair of glasses that I always get comments that are my “Harry Potter glasses”. I wore those, bought a tie from Amazon, and printed a Gryffindor badge online that I covered in packing tape to “laminate” it.
So many makeup Instagram accounts and Youtube makeup artists do super intense skulls and SFX gore makeup. Not me… this lightning bolt drawn on the right side of my forehead is about as artsy as I get. Along with the tie, badge, and glasses, I did a red and gold smokey eye (Gryffindor colors), drew on a lightning bolt scar with a brow pencil, and put on a Hogwarts shirt that I had from JCPenney.
All the pictures I got on the night of were in awful lighting at the party we went to so I recreated the look today at home. I threw on makeup and didn’t do the red gold smokey eye because I was in a rush, but you get the effect. I used the Modern Renaissance Palette for the eyeshadows with Urban Decay Midnight Cowboy glitter liner on Saturday. If you don’t have a Harry Potter shirt, just wear a white button up so it’s more like the Hogwarts uniforms. Fake glasses can also be bought on Amazon, or round sunglasses are pretty common these days and you can pop out the lenses to have your own pair.
This costume is totally appropriate for work or any event. I will probably wear it every Halloween from here on out because it’s the best I’ve done and I love it This costume made me so happy because I love the books, audiobooks, movies, and Harry Potter at Universal Studios in Florida and California. I’m a super fan even though my costume is totally not dead on accurate to the story.
P.S. Idk how to tie a tie and gave up…. hoping someone at work can help me out with that tomorrow. Happy Halloween!!
