I decided to ignore all of the controversial drama surrounding this release and try it myself because of the color selection. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, search “morphe jaclyn” on Reddit. The cake gate is my personal fave.
I used to have a few Morphe palettes that I got rid of- the packaging is huge and cheap plastic. The formula wasn’t awful but was dusty and I just never reached for it. The potential different formula in the new Jaclyn Hill x Morphe palette was appealing to me. Jaclyn based this palette off her personal “life palette” aka single shadows in a Z Palette that she had curated.
I ordered right when it launched and have been using it for a little over a week now. There are so many swatch videos online so I won’t bore you with mine. The mattes don’t finger swatch well for me, but they pick up well on a brush and blend out really nicely for me. The shimmer colors swatch fabulously, but require a couple coats to pack on the eye for high shine.
I went ahead and depotted these because I wanted to add some pans to my “life palette” and single shadow collection. This was much easier than I thought it was going to be. To get started I searched “depotting Zoeva palettes” because it is similar cardboard packaging to this one. I slipped a pocketknife around the edge of the cardboard to peel it apart layer by layer. All the shadows thankfully survived the depotting process! These are not magnetic so to get them to stick in my Makeup Forever, Z Palette, and Tarte palettes, I added magnet stickers to the bottom. Then I used some washi tape to write names of the shadows on the bottom of each pan. It annoyed me so much that these did not come with names! Many people got a little cheat sheet with the names, but that didn’t come included in my order.
There are some shadows here that are dead on dupes for some of the colors that Jaclyn said she loves in her original life palette, and also some unique ones. I went on a rearranging spree for my singles palettes after depotting these. For mattes, the ones I decided to include were Hunts, Jacz, Buns, and Chip. I almost put in Central Park but I couldn’t bring myself to kick any out for it. For shimmers, I put Beam, Fraint, Firework, Obsessed, Hustle, Queen, Meeks, Cranapple, and Diva. The dupes that she created did not unseat their original Makeup Geek counterparts in my palette because I prefer the Makeup Geek formulas.
Overall I am happy that I have this palette. The color combinations that the palette can create are almost endless, and it definitely helped me round out my singles palettes with colors I love. If you don’t want to depot this, it would be great for travel due to the color selection. I feel like it should have had a matte white/ cream shade to use as a starter eyeshadow color, but whatever. If you love warm shadows and don’t already have a huge collection of them, this palette is an affordable option that has some great wearable colors.

It has impressed me a lot more than I thought it would 🙂 Thanks for reading!
I think I like the range in this palette the most – feel like you can do so many looks!! xx
I’m glad I got this palette🙌🏼 the color selection is beautiful! How did you not break a shadow from depotting😬
The glue was more like a putty and it was very easy to pop them off once I got to the cardboard paper they were stuck to. Make sure to take it fully apart before you try! The pocket knife was key too.
Thanks on your marvelous posting! I certainly enjoyed reading it, you might be a great author.
