Makeup Menu

Last week I did a “Skin Detox” and loved the time it saved me, so this week, I narrowed down my makeup station to about 15 products to create looks.  This may become a weekly tradition for me.  I’m thinking it will be a good way to shop my collection to rediscover old things, get good use out of products by applying them every day for a whole week, and test out new items.  While picking out these products, I tried to keep with the theme of being gentle of my skin and going with classic items I know and love.

If you can’t already tell, I overthink makeup a lot.  By the time I purchase a new product, I have researched reviews, swatches, and blogs to get a good idea if it will work on me.  Since each and everything I own pretty much has a solid reason for me to be able to justify buying it, I can give you a run down on why I chose it for this week and why it gets to be featured on my face.

FullSizeRender-7Starting with the face, I broke out my It Cosmetics CC cream this week because I am trying to give my skin some extra TLC.  This foundation always impresses me and I love everything about it!  I haven’t mentioned the Lorac double feature concealer/highlighter before now.  This is a 2- in-1 thing: a roll up cream stick in a light pink/nude, and a highlighting liquid on the other side.   I like to use the cream stick to sculpt out under my brow or dab in the inner corner of my eyes.  Rather than sparkles, the liquid side has small light reflecting particles.  It reminds me of the ELF under eye setting powder or mineral veil- in liquid form.  .

For cheeks, I went for blush and highlight that are  old school products I can always rely on.  MAC Soft and Gentle was the first highlight I purchased.  Wasn’t it one of the first highlighters on the market in general?  This Covergirl Cheekers Blush reminds me of being in high school, and the color is so pretty and brightening!  I repurchased it this year after Chrisspy mentioned it in some videos.  Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer is a new addition to my collection and I tried it for the first time today.  It made me look very glowy, had an interesting smooth/ buttery texture, smells AWESOME, and did not get muddy.  This looks light in the pan, but bronzed up my face very well.  The packaging is super clunky and little kid- looking, but I can look past it for the merits of the formula.

Eyes usually take me the most time in the morning, so I wanted to keep this category especially simple.   With the news of the Lorac Pro 3 Palette release, I have been on a Lorac kick, looking up swatches and first impression videos.  (Like this one!)  The Lorac Skinny Nude palette has enough mattes and shimmers to keep doing unique looks all week long.  In case I plan on skipping shadow all together, Rubenesque paint pot looks nice on it’s own, or under other shadows as a super reliable primer.

Thanks for checking out my post!! I am already getting excited for what I’ll have on next week’s “menu”.
