ABH Modern Renaissance Palette: Review & Thoughts

This is my first Anastasia eye shadow palette and I am very happy with it.  I have been using it just about every day since I received it so that I can form some opinions, and also just because I have been reaching for it it automatically!

The palette appealed to me because of all the browns and red tones. The reason I like this so much is that it has many neutrals along with bolder warm colors.  Mustard browns are my go- to’s lately, and this has awesome ones- Raw Sienna and Golden Ochre.  Red Ochre and Realgar are amazingly pigmented and can bring life to a crease or smoked out under eye.  The two magenta/ pink shades Venetian Red and Love Letter are the two colors that really drew me in when I first saw it.

This palette is great for when I want to do a brown smokey eye, a simple nude eye with a pop of sparkle with Vermeer or Primavera, or a warm crease with Burnt Orange.  There are no shades in here that will be neglected because they are all so wearable.  There are only three shimmers- a champagne light pink, light gold, and antique plum warm brown.  I appreciate that they didn’t add a black because almost every palette contains one and I use black very rarely.

The formula reminds me of the Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour palette because they are very blendable and I get some fall- out when I touch colors with a brush. I don’t think I could get a harsh edge if I tried!  Fall- out is annoying but some of my favorite eyeshadows (Kat Von D, Makeup Geek) have that so I need to get over it at this point. The brush that comes with it is nice and I will be getting plenty of use out of it as well.  The packaging is a lovely soft pink velvet fabric.

I included photos of the look I wore today using this palette.  I did a brown smokey eye with Raw Sienna as the main color.  I know I will be hitting pan on this shade first! It reminds me of Makeup Geek Tiki Hut or Bobbi Brown Camel.

Eyeshadows: 1. Golden Ochre as transition shade. 2. Tempera to brighten the inner corner. 3. Raw Sienna blended throughout my crease, onto the lid, and smoked out under the eye.

This palette looks pretty. But I already have so many similar shades in other palettes.

I definitely get that. The formula of these are a big part of why I’m so happy with it.
