Clinique Superbalanced Silk Foundation Review

Today I would like to talk about a foundation I have been using for about a month now.  This foundation was a very unexpected find.  I’ll tell you the little story of how we met before getting on with how I like the foundation.

I have been seeing Smashbox Studio Skin foundation all over Instagram and Youtube videos lately, and I decided I needed to try it. I was trying to be smart about the purchase so I got a sample from Sephora and found my perfect shade. I really liked the coverage and finish of the Smashbox- it is full coverage and buildable, which is great for covering up my temperamental breakouts.

I was getting ready to check out and purchase the Smashbox Studio Skin from Sephora while watching Youtube when I started a video from Shelbey Ashburn about a new foundation- Clinique Superbalanced Silk.  She said it was a dupe for Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk foundation- but better.  For $25, the Clinique was cheaper than both the GA and Smashbox.  Shelbey gives great recommendations on her channel that I trust and basically I was sold.  I ended up checking out at Sephora with both the Clinique and Smashbox foundations in my cart.

Surprisingly I guessed my shade in the Clinique foundation exactly right (Silk Canvas) from Googling swatches. So lucky!  When it arrived I immediately tried out the foundation and could not believe how amazing it is.  It honestly makes my skin look perfect.  The next day I went and returned the Smashbox because I didn’t need two brand new foundations.  Besides looking nicer on my skin, the Clinique was so much cheaper- $42 vs. $25! The Smashbox Studio Skin is a great foundation, but it has a more “makeup-ey” look in comparison to the Clinique.

I have mentioned before that I adore finding dupes of high end products, and this definitely hits the mark for me.  I haven’t owned the Giorgio Armani foundation, but have tried a sample from Nordstrom. I didn’t think it was anything special, and just chalked it up to me being a greasy freak that had way too oily skin for an amazing product that my friends all love.

According to the Clinique website,  this foundation is for both oily and dry skin types, which is awesome! Here are the claims from Clinique.com, “Slip on a silk-enriched makeup. Feel naked, yet covered to perfection. Control oil, yet hydrate where needed. Protect with SPF. Oil-free. Sheer to moderate coverage. Natural-matte finish. Ideal for Dry Combination to Oily Skin Types.”  When I have this on, my skin looks flawless, it is very undetectable on your face, and I just look prettier in general.  I went to Sephora and picked up a shade that would work on my fake tanned skin tone- Silk Bamboo.

When I have an event where I need to look good for an extended amount of time, I usually go with a foundation that I trust.  At the beginning of this month I was a bridesmaid in my friend’s wedding and had to be in makeup from noon to midnight.  I decided to take a risk and choose the Clinique Superbalanced Silk and I did not need to touch up once.  Typing that is even crazy! It was raining and I was sweating all day long. I cannot think of even one foundation that I own that works that well. I like this more than It Cosmetics CC Cream and Makeup For Ever HD Stick foundation, which are my other holy grail products.  Discovering this product has gotten me to the point where I want to use up all my other foundations and just stick to Clinique Superbalanced Silk.  I have never reached this level of love with any other foundations, LOL.

I have tried this foundation layered with a variety of primers, and they all seem to pair very well with it. I highly recommend checking out the Clinique Superbalanced Silk foundation if you have ever wanted to find an affordable, perfect foundation that will blow you away.

Ulta sent me a coupon for a free full size of this with a Clinique consultation. I like it a lot too. I can actually get almost full coverage when applying with a brush, which is surprising. Have you tried their Beyond Perfecting foundation? I like that one a lot too. I have reviews of both on my blog if you want to check them out. 😊
