Trying Aloe & Charcoal Skincare | DERMA-E Review

I have heard plenty about using charcoal to deep clean pores, but had never tried it out myself.  According to Google (so credible lol), “Activated charcoal draws bacteria, poisons, chemicals, dirt and other micro-particles to the surface of skin, helping you to achieve a flawless complexion and fight acne.”  That’s all the research I  need to do to start trying out more charcoal products.  Having a greasy oil slick face, charcoal sounds like a great supplement for my skincare regimen.

Derma- E recently revamped their packaging and sent me two charcoal products- Purifying 2-in-1 Mask and Daily Detox Scrub. When I got it, I knew the brand sounded familiar, but didn’t recognize the packaging until I read a little bit more about it.  The new look is such a great upgrade!

More importantly though, I was excited to try out the products.  I cleansed my skin with the scrub and put on the mask.  Unlike some of my favorite mud masks, as the charcoal mask dried, it did not feel tight or pulling.  I left it on for about 15 minutes until it dried down, then rinsed it off. I liked that it did not crumble onto my shirt, so this would be a good one to use if you actually need to walk around your house and don’t want little mask crumbs all over the floor.  It made my skin feel great but not stripped. I will definitely be adding this mask into my skincare rotation.

The face scrub is pretty intense for me. I am nervous about anything super harsh on my face, because rough physical exfoliates can cause micro-tears in skin that are a great place for bacteria to move into. Not into that.  This isn’t as rough as something like the St. Ives Apricot scrub if you have tried that.  Using only a pea sized amount of the DERMA-e scrub and massaging it gently is my preferred method of applying this.

Yesterday I actually used this to exfoliate my legs after shaving and also I scrubbed my arms, neck, and chest. My skin feels SO soft and looks noticeably smoother.  My self tanning foam went on like a dream and looks so flawless today.  I would definitely repurchase this scrub to use for my body when I run out.

Overall, I was really impressed by these two products. The first ingredient in the both the mask and scrub is Aloe Leaf Juice & Extract, which is known to heal skin amazingly.  Next up I’m dying to try their overnight peel with AHA.  Have you tried out charcoal? I am intrigued to look more into this ingredient now! Thanks for reading. 🙂
