Casual Day Out Look & Stila Illuminating BB Review

It’s currently the Tuesday back to work after the long Memorial Day weekend as I’m writing this. Instead of thinking about work, I’m going to talk about one of the makeup looks I did this weekend that was a bit different for me. I tried out two new products and went quite minimal (for me) with my look. It was hot outside and I was going out for lunch and drinks in Portland so I didn’t want to pile on a heavy face that would look awful in a few hours. My eyeshadow was ultra simple- I used the Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye palette for all my mattes and a new Colourpop pressed powder shadow in Come and Get It for the lid. The placement of all the shades I used are listed below. This is the first time I have used a Colourpop pressed shadow and I thought it was great. This particular color had a gorgeous gold and pink duochrome that was really light but also brought some rose gold to my look.  The pink stood out more than I originally thought it would. It had creased a bit by the end of the day but nothing that really bothered me.

Stila Illuminating Beauty Balm Review

I tried a new base product for this look that I hadn’t used before- the Stila Stay All Day Illuminating Beauty Balm.  This will be featured in a haul post coming up soon once I get one more order in, but I wanted to talk about how this product has performed so far. I used it just about everyday the past week so I feel like I’ve gotten enough wear time to at least talk about my first impressions.

Once you see this product, you’ll probably recognize the packaging. It is a staple in the beauty aisle but for some reason I had never tried this product. I feel like it’s one of those BB creams people use when they aren’t SUPER into makeup, but just like classic products that work for them- hence why you don’t see many reviews or makeup routines featuring it. At least that is my theory of why I didn’t try this sooner.

To prep my face for the Stila BB, I have been using my typical skincare, then Glossier Priming Rich Moisturizer. It creates a nice barrier between makeup and my skin and feels very nice to apply. The Stila BB has moisturizing properties to it, but I like to be extra and use my own along with it as a backup. I also have used the Rimmel Stay Matte Primer under it a few times, and they gel nicely.

The strange thing about this BB cream is that it comes in one shade. That’s kind of awful for anyone with a skin tone lighter or darker than me, so that is definitely a negative. Lucky enough it is my perfect tone so that doesn’t really effect my experience with it. This is VERY light coverage and gives my skin a little glow. Nothing sparkly or too pearly or gold, but just adds some bouncy healthiness to my face. This would be beautiful to wear to work everyday for a natural finish that perfects just a little bit.

I have seen many people talk about using this as a primer, so I tried that as well under my Dior Forever foundation. I like to use the Dior as a topper to other foundations- I know this sounds psycho for an expensive foundation but it’s how I stretch it! They were a match made in heaven, and I wore the combination camping on Friday.  It stayed put when I applied it around noon until I took it off with a makeup wipe in the forest in the middle of the night.

Overall I really like this product.  If you have problematic acne that you want to cover, you will need to spot conceal with another covering product, but this looks so nice all over as a natural base. I can see myself using this a ton this summer on it’s own for some occasion like a pool day, or as a primer on more makeup days. It also has SPF 30 with was one of the selling features for me.

For this particular look I used the Stila BB cream in conjunction with a little bit of Urban Decay Naked Skin One & Done Complexion Perfector.  My face held up extremely well through eating burgers at Industrial Cafe & Saloon, walking in the sun, a mint julep, more walking, and a margarita.

COMPLEXION| GLOSSIER priming rich moisturizer, STILA bb Cream, URBAN DECAY naked skin one and done, TARTE Aquacealer, KATVOND lyric under eyes, TOOFACED pink leopard blush, COLOURPOP Topaz bronzer, BENEFIT contour, LANCÔME Absolue golden powder all over

EYES| SMASHBOX eye base, KATVOND shade + light Laetus all over, Ludwin in the crease, Salas outer corner, COLOURPOP come and get it shadow on lid, MAKEUP GEEK In the spotlight inner corner, MARC JACOBS pink of me liner, WETNWILD liquid liner,  LOREAL miss manga rock mascara

BROWS| ABH Auburn Dipbrow pomade, MAKEUP FOREVER brown liner, LOREAL Brow Plumper Stylist gel

LIP| MAC Stripdown liner, BAREMINERALS Wink liquid lip

I hope you liked this post! I definitely recommend the Stila BB cream- it’s one of those products that I actually ENJOY applying if you know what I mean. Let me know if you try it out!
