Bridal Party Makeup Artist | Non- Professional Experience

Last month I had the awesome opportunity to do makeup for my friend Kendra’s bridal party.  We were friends in college and when she got engaged and decided to do her own makeup for her wedding, we got a lot closer as she researched products and makeup tutorials.  I’ve never done wedding makeup, so this was really exciting for me. I thought I’d talk about the experience in case anyone out there is in the same situation as me! There weren’t any resources that I could find on this topic for rookies doing bridal party makeup when I was looking.

Greige Lipstick Collection

Greige liquid lipsticks

Limecrime Cashmere was such a big deal a few years back, and it was a major staple in the online makeup-sphere.  Searching for the perfect dupe, looking up reviews on the formula, and finally buying it (along with a backup) reminds me of a time when I could not stop wearing it.  If I remember correctly, the hype of it died a little when the “Kylie Jenner” brownish nude lip color started trending.

Best Self Tanning Products

Darkest Fake Tan blog post

Over the years I have tried so many self tanning methods and feel like I have it down.  I wanted to share the range of types from lightest to darkest, so no matter what you’re looking for you can find a good suggestion here if you want some color. My personal strategy with tanning is to get it as dark and affordable as possible because I do it so often. I’ll start with the lightest and go down to the darkest shades.

Fall Eyeshadow Obsession + Lip Combo I Love

Trophy Wife highlight by Fenty Beauty ignited a love of chartreuse green/yellow in me.  It’s a great fall color that reminds me of the 70’s and mustard yellow.  If you need a dupe of Fenty Beauty Trophy Wife, get Colourpop Telepathy or Juvia’s Place Wodabe.  It gives a bold gold wearable look, but the chartreuse greenish tone of that eye lid shade is bright enough to be almost a bold colorful eyeshadow.  Wearable but stands out…. two birds with one stone.

Travel Makeup Bag | Work Trip

Currently I’m on a work trip and realized that I brought an ultra minimal amount of makeup.  For me, this is super bare bones.  Usually I love taking the opportunity on any trip to do glam makeup in the hotel bathroom and bring all my favorite products.  This time was a little different because I’ll be in lots of work meetings and when I packed, I was also getting ready to go to a party with my friends so all my super glam makeup was already being used.  To be honest I wasn’t the most excited to travel this time, so I just threw the necessities I would need to look presentable together and went. I’ll go through my base, brows, eyes, and lip products that I’ll be using while I’m away from home.

Trying out Pumpkin Spice Natural Deodorant | Native Review

IMG_2233With all the popularity of aluminum free deodorants recently, I totally ignored the idea of switching over.  I REEK without deodorant, and I’m not ashamed to admit that.  I am someone who applies it as soon as I get out of the shower, and before bed at night sometimes. As soon as it wears off I’m immediately not covered in that department and it’s not a good situation.  The first thing that made me want to try it out was a recommendation from someone I know who was reliant on normal deodorant. She said Native actually worked so it got me interested.

Deodorant has not been linked to causing cancer, but I wanted to at least try the natural route to see if it was an acceptable replacement. I liked the idea of it because it does seem unnatural/ possibly unhealthy to block that natural process of sweating out toxins, especially near my chest.  I was hopeful this would keep my underarms fresh, but I wasn’t actually enthusiastic about it.  My threshold for testing deodorants or really any beauty products is asking myself “would I wear this to a wedding?”  Weddings are the ultimate time where I feel like I have to feel my best which means maintaining a high level of being ultra sweat and smell proof, so this is a tough standard for products to live up to.

The Saharan Palette by Juvia’s Place |Review

I’m not sure what took me so long to try out Juvia’s Place.  The eyeshadow palettes have been popping up in makeup tutorials for a couple years now with rave reviews, but I was turned off by all the bright colors if I’m being honest. I love warm tones and neutral colors, and already own way too many.

The saharan palette

What finally sold me was the price point and the colors of The Saharan Palette.  It was $26.66 with shipping, and arrived very quickly.  The color selection of this palette is great because you have your warm and neutral brown mattes, neutral shimmers, but also some fun bold colors that can be added to accent a look.  These are a different formula than Anastasia Beverly Hills, Makeup Geek, or Kat Von D shadows- the mattes and shimmers both get much less powder kick up.  The pans seem to be pressed a little harder, which I like. I can get an even wash of color that you can build up, rather than depositing a bunch of pigment on my skin right away that I need to blend out. The shimmers are gorgeous and all swatched well.

Minimal Eyes, Red Lip Look

Whenever someone has on a red lipstick that suits them, I want to know the name of it and the full journey of how they discovered it. Did they try a million other red lipsticks and finally ended up at that one?  Was it a lucky first pick? Did they hate red lips until trying this particular shade?  All the pointless nosey questions you can think of- I want to know it all.

If someone asked me my “journey” with Colourpop Arriba! (no one would but I guess blogging = making up hypothetical lipstick journey conversations), it would be that I loved it as soon as I saw Colourpop release it, but tried to hold back.  After seeing it on a few people I follow, I obviously caved and bought it.  One person in particular that I saw wearing it was @Katy, or LustreLux on Youtube.  It made her tan pop.  I mentioned this in my Colourpop Haul post, but it is just that right shade of red that is rich and has a hint of maroon.  It makes my teeth look white and I couldn’t be happier with it.

Before I applied it, I put Soap & Glory Extreme XXL Plumping Gloss on to work while I did the rest of my face. I dabbed off the excess with a towel, put on some chapstick, and about six minutes or so later I put on the red liquid lipstick.

Nail Colors of the Month |September 2017

september nails

During September I kept track of all the nail colors I used. It was half out of curiosity because I really do use quite a few, and half to make blog content. I used to do seasonal polish picks but this is a more realistic version since it shows what I actually paint on my hands month to month.  Along with the colors, I’ll mention if there were any crap formulas that I noticed.
