Kylie Skin |Affordable Routine Alternatives

As a big fan of the Kardashians/ Jenners/ West and skincare, I feel like I’d be a target customer of the new Kylie Skin line.  Kylie Skin is releasing six products May 22. Everything ranges from $10- 28, or you can buy the whole set for $125 before shipping.  I love Kylie, I love the packaging, and most of all I love the idea of her making a skincare routine easy and attainable. I don’t think it’s worth buying at all though, and I wanted to share my recommendations for better alternatives.

I’ll go through each step, because the focus on the easy order of steps really can make huge improvements.  Implementing a skincare routine will make a pretty big difference in all the best ways. There are so many skin care lines out there that have pretty packaging, fragrances, and really high price tags, leading people to think they need that to have good skin. Struggling with acne sucks in so many ways, but finding the right routine and using products with active ingredients doesn’t need to be expensive.

My picks add up to $132 for a lot more product.  I’m pretty confident in saying the items I linked are all bigger sizes- some more than triple, less expensive per ounce, and better quality. I’ve seen great results with all of these and have repurchased them if I’ve used them up.  In the case of the alternative I listed being less product, it’s still *probably* better- like the vanilla milk toner supposedly smells amazing, but added fragrance isn’t beneficial or necessary to have in skincare. Ugh, I don’t want to come off holier- than-Kylie, but it’s just so obvious to me. The one thing I definitely would be interested in buying from Kylie Skin would be a cute robe that has the Kylie Skin logo on it like she has on in the promo videos.

Like I said I’m a huge fan of Kylie, but I’m a bigger fan of saving money and using active ingredients in my skincare products.  I hope this was helpful to anyone that is looking to implement a simplistic skincare routine, and I feel like the products I mentioned are relatively good for all skin types, like the Kylie Skin launches all claim to be.

It’s been talked about a lot already, but I have to mention how surprised I am that she released a walnut scrub.  Skincare 101 states to not use abrasive scrubs. I was guilty of this myself- I used to use the St. Ives scrub in high school, and even the Acure brightening scrub that I’ve mentioned is a little harsher that I probably should have been using.  Limit use of harsh scrubs to areas like feet and legs. I love salt scrubs to buff away fading self tan on my body, and I exfoliate before and after shaving.

For face exfoliation, AHA & BHA chemical exfoliants have been a huge game changer in my skincare routine. It loosens up pore clogs, smooths texture, and speeds up cell turnover to reveal fresh, bright skin.  My favorite are the Nip + Fab Glycolic Extreme wipes and the Stridex red box wipes that I’ll link below. I rotate between these two after washing my face almost every night. If you’re using a lot of AHA & BHAs like this, protect your skin by hydrating afterward and using sunscreen during the day.

If you can’t help but love that physical exfoliation feeling on your face though, I recommend the No.7 Total Renewal scrub. It made me realize Acure was way too harsh after feeling the microscopic crystals in the No.7 scrub that make my skin feel velvety soft. I like to use this scrub by splashing my face with water, then patting it lightly with a towel so it’s damp, not wet. With dry hands I apply the scrub all over, massaging it in for 60 seconds. Then I wet my hands and continue massaging before washing it off.

To round out this line up if you’re actually starting from scratch building up a skincare collection, I’d add in a few more things that Kylie Skin doesn’t have:

Makeup removing cleanser: Philosophy Purity is my holy grail.

Non- foaming face wash: Pixi Glow Mud Cleanser, Cerave also has one that doesn’t foam.

Acne wash: Panoxyl is amazing for cleansing or using as a mask

Chemical exfoliation wipes: Nip + Fab, Stridex

Face mask: Both of these contain exfoliating glycolic acid: 1, 2

Oil: I like to apply Bio Oil on its own and also mix it in with moisturizers.

Sunscreen: Neutrogena Hydro Boost is my daily SPF

If there is a high end product you’d like a dupe for, comment below and I’d love to give it a shot.
