Summer Face & Body Scrubs

Exfoliation is so important year round, but especially in the sweaty summer months.  I’m always between some stage of applying self tan so scrubbing away old layers of it is crucial.  When it comes to my face I’m big on chemical exfoliation, but once a week I do a physical exfoliation as well.  Along with the self tanning aspect of doing a scrub, I also use a scrub before and after shaving.  It gets rid of dead skin and unclogs pores to get a nice close shave.  This post will go over my favorite scrubbing methods for face and body.

Body

Sugar Scrub / The Moroccan rose scent is so beautiful and I love the soft grainy paste texture of this scrub to use everyday.  Disclaimer though- I bought this during the spring and it attracted ants to my bathroom, which was lightly traumatizing to me when I found them in the shower.  Easy fix by rinsing any sugar off the container and keeping it sealed in a ziploc bag.

Salt Scrub / This is the most gritty and will prep you to be super smooth before a spray tan.

Apricot Scrub / This is my shower staple because I like the squeeze tube, the grit, and it’s the most affordable.  I feel like skincare addicts would gasp if they saw this in someones shower, but I firmly believe that it’s amazing when used from the chest down. When I was a young unaware teen/ my earlier twenties I used this on my face.  Now I know that it’s way too rough for that! The knock off generic brand your grocery store carries will do the trick.

Exfoliating Towel/ This will get patchy layers of self tan off the best.  It’s rough but won’t actually hurt.  After using this I go in again with one of the scrubs I mentioned above. Definitely the most effective way to get stubborn dry patches off.

Face

No7 Total Renewal/ I swear by this face scrub. I used to use Acure and found it way more rough than No7 Total Renewal.  Besides dermaplaning, this makes my face feel SO smooth and gets rid of any dead skin.  How I use it:

  1. Starting with a clean dry face, I lightly wet my hands with water and apply the scrub to my face
  2. Using finger tips, make circular motions with light pressure for 60 seconds.
  3. Get water on hands and repeat another 60 seconds.
  4. Rinse scrub off.  Going in with my hands more dry is the key to get blood circulating and really get a deeper scrub.

Pore Refining Face Wash / This glycolic face wash has a gentle physical exfoliation aspect. I always encourage my boyfriend to use this in his beard/ stubble because it’s not too harsh for everyday.

Exfoliating Mask / If you want a deep pore cleansing mask, you can’t get much better than this. It’s a chemical and physical exfoliant.  You start by applying it the same way I detailed in the Total Renewal scrub, but you leave it on for a few minutes to get the glycolic acid benefits. Highly recommend treating yourself to this.
