Trying Magnetic Lashes

I never thought I would be someone who wore magnetic lashes. Just the idea of them made me think of something that looked super janky and bulky.  When I glue on false lashes, I’m super particular about having them look as natural as possible- the ends secured, trimming them so they aren’t oversized or droopy like Snuffleupagus.

I follow a style Instagram account called @livingmybeststyle and was inspired to try Ardell Magnetic lashes because of her.  She did a demo putting them on, and I was surprised by how good they looked.

I grabbed a pair at Ulta and tried them out.  I’ve figured out how to make them look great so I wanted to share that here. I’m currently working on getting everyone in my life converted to them and curating a lifetime supply for myself. I’m at the point where I have to put them on when I do even casual makeup, they just make everything look better! It’s like I’m discovering makeup for the first time all over again.

How to apply magnetic lashes:

  1. Purchase Ardell Magnetic Double Wispies
  2. Trim the lashes- I cut off the inner corner, but if you have naturally smaller lashes you might want to cut off the outer corner instead so you can keep that nice taper to help them blend. I’d say I cut off almost a centimeter?  Just have one of the magnets be at the end of the lash. So I cut off the inner magnet.
  3. Apply your favorite mascara, let it dry.
  4. Take the top and bottom in each hand, ready to go. Place the top as close to your lash line as you can, then bring the bottom up under your lashes.  They will clasp together.

Ardell also does “accent” magnetics that are more like a half lash style. If you don’t feel confident with trimming up the wispies, give those a try. I think they would be best for those with smaller natural lashes as well.

The first time I applied them and went out in public I was so scared they were going to basically fly off. I was very surprised that they didn’t budge and I felt like I basically had lash extensions.  I’ve even worn them to work.  I wear super minimal makeup to work if I even wear any so this really shows how much I like them.

This is kind of an unpopular opinion but I think lash extensions are a huge waste of money and very damaging. By the time you’re due for a fill, they look very helter skelter and spidery.  One good week of beautiful lashes does not justify the cost of $100+ and a lot of damage to your natural lashes. I would highly recommend switching to magnetic lashes if you’re a lash extension addict. You get to take them off at night, they’re a breeze to put on once you get the hang of it, and they are a much more affordable way to have luscious lashes.

So far I’ve worn magnetic lashes about five times since I got them last week.  They are so nice for my lifestyle because when I want to do a makeup look for my blog or Instagram, I can just pop on the lashes instead of gluing on a strip lash. A lot of the time when I do a makeup look I don’t even leave my house before washing my face, so they’re so nifty for that situation.  This weekend I had some friends over to hang out for game day and I wanted to take a picture- instead of gluing on lashes I put the magnetic on and it really amped up my makeup. Gluing on lashes just to stay home feels like wearing jeans to bed. Lashes always make me feel my best in photos. For the times where I’m going out for a quick drink or happy hour with my friends, magnetic lashes are also ideal.

I hope I’ve convinced you to give them a try. I promise you’ll be just as obsessed as I am.  I’ll keep  you updated on my favorite styles as I continue trying more magnetic styles.  This is just the beginning I feel like lol.
