Quarantine Things

It’s currently coronavirus quarantine times (or quaran-times as I like to say) and life has been weird. These days I’m working from home and only leaving for my weekly grocery store trip. There are some things that are keeping me semi- sane and bright a bit of light into my day that I figured I’d share.

Elliptical / Before quarantine, I went to the gym every week day before heading into the office. I miss that a lot. Luckily we have an elliptical that I can hop on. Between that and doing some at home workouts on youtube, I’ve been trying to get a little sweat going daily.

Reading / I have a few friends that I do book club with, and I really enjoy the podcast The Readheads.  I like to joke that I’ve joined like five book clubs during quarantine. Zoom call meetings are something I hope to continue after the world goes back to normal. One of the books I’ve read recently and absolutely loved was Before We Were Strangers. Highly recommend that one! Follow me on Goodreads. It’s a fun way to track what you’re reading and also get great recommendations. I’m reading The Farm by Joanne Ramos currently.

Self Tanning / Looking good helps me feel good. Just because no one else gets to see me much, I still have to look in the mirror. Don’t blow through your high end fake tan though. It’s a good time to try drugstore tanners. This is one of my favorites.

Hair Care / There have been so many awful impacts of COVID-19 on the world. Personally my job was furloughed and it’s been a struggle dealing with that. AT LEAST though, my hair has benefited. Longer time between washing and no heat styling is making it healthier. Please try heat less bathrobe tie curls – they’ve changed the game for me. Here’s a tutorial: https://vm.tiktok.com/vrpU1p/

Breakfast Smoothie / Usually my daily breakfast in the office was a protein bar. Now that I have access to my blender, it’s become a smoothie.  I use the “Fab Four” method by Kelly Leveque to make mine. Recipe: splash of almond milk, ½ cup of water, dollop of peanut butter, ice, scoop of protein powder, scoop of collagen, handful of spinach, handful of flax seeds.

Lists / Making lists to stay on track helps me out. Even if it’s something seemingly so miniscule like “empty dishwasher”, getting to cross it off and tackle the next item feels good.

Podcasts / Wow, the highlight of my day is getting to listen to The Morning Toast, The Snatchelor, or Not Another Bachelor Podcast. Highly recommend them for some great pop culture and current events content. I’m looking forward to starting The Dream podcast as well.

Crafting / If you haven’t tried bleach tie dyeing clothing, it’s a fun easy way to get creative.

Coffee / My daily cup consists of brewing a pot of french roast grounds in the coffee pot, topped with frothed almond milk. I use this frother to mix almond milk and Skinny Syrup.

The Bachelor Presents Listen to Your Heart / Tonight I will be watching Listen to Your Heart – the ABC Bachelor Spinoff. When the show was announced I immediately thought WOW cheesy, but in the quaran-times, I’m nothing but a content consumer and I fully embrace any opportunity to see Mr. Chris B. Harrison on my screen.

There’s a meme going around that says, “I’m a homebody, but damn i liked going SOME places” and that is so true for me. This quarantine makes me feel like I need to take advantage of life more and get out there, because I think everyone can agree we took it for granted when we could.
