ColourPop Ultra Matte Lipstick Collection & Swatches

If you’re on a budget and in the market for liquid lipsticks, I highly recommend ColourPop.  There is a color for everyone in their range, and they are a great price point.  Sometimes the colors come off a bit different online than they do in person so I hope my swatches below are helpful.  What I love about ColourPop most is the color range. While there are drugstore matte liquid lipsticks that have a great formula, there are only a selection of about eight shades to choose from in those brands.  Whenever I want to try a crazy shade that I’m not sure I’ll be able to pull off, I go with ColourPop because I know they’ll have it and I won’t have to spend a lot if I end up not liking it.

If you want these to be comfortable and wear well, I have some tips for the best way to apply these:

  1. use a chapstick while you do the rest of your makeup (always a good idea)
  2. after the rest of your face is done, wipe off the chapstick and apply MAC Prep + Prime (my favorite under every lipstick)
  3. line with a lip liner, then apply the liquid lipstick.

Basically I use these steps anytime I put on any liquid lipstick to go out but especially with these.  They are known to be drying, which is a basic aspect of almost any liquid lipstick. To me, the matte finish on a lipstick is worth some dryness, but it can get tricky when you’re going to touch up.

Mama is a gorgeous burnt orange but it’s the most drying out of the whole bunch.  My favorite colors are Tulle, Bumble, Viper, and Arriba!.  The rest are beautiful as well but dupable.  Because I do have quite a big collection from other brands, I tend to reach for other colors that dupe these because they are newer, which isn’t the best habit but just my preference I guess.

If you’re new to trying ColourPop liquid lipsticks, I would definitely say Clueless, Midi, and Tulle are my “must haves”.  Something about Tulle is SO wearable and flattering.  Bumble is one I would add too but it is dupable from other ranges- Kat Von D Lolita II and Jeffree Star I’m Shook.

If mattes bother you, check out ColourPop’s Ultra Satin lipsticks.  Personally I have some and while the colors are beautiful, I like the ultra matte finish so much more. Echo Park and Magic Wand satins are some of the prettiest nude colors I own in my collection though.

Thank you for reading and Happy New Year!
