Kylie Kylighter Review & Giveaway

When Kylie revealed her Kylighters on Snapchat a few weeks back, I was so excited. I was freaking out with my friends talking about which ones we wanted, and speculating on the quality of them. She didn’t show herself actually swatching them so that was iffy.  It likely meant that they had to be built up a few layers to get good pigmentation. The packaging was beautiful- minimal, creamy pastel patent shiny cardboard with a mirror. I loved the aesthetic of the collection and the colors that she chose. I immediately wanted French Vanilla and Salted Caramel. (The names make it even more appealing.)

They released this month and I was at my computer, debit card ready, refreshing the website until they were available. I purchased two for myself, French Vanilla and Salted Caramel. I received them this Friday, and wanted to share my thoughts on how they performed.

They came unsmashed, one star right off the bat for that! Right away I noticed that the sticker label on the back of French Vanilla was lopsided.  This was disappointing and was definitely poor craftsmanship. When I swatched them, I had to build up at least two coats to get good pigmentation on my hand. They were solidly unimpressive upon first impression. The sticker being sketchy, and the fact that beauty influencers didn’t get PR packages for this launch signals a sloppy release of this product to me.

I wasn’t ready to give up, so I did my makeup Sunday with them. They looked pigmented on the brush, and on my face they were a beautiful glowy highlighter that I was able to smoothly blend into my skin. I put on two layers with the Sigma F35.  They even swatched better on my hand when I applied it with a brush. I can’t think of another highlighter I own that performs in this way. It almost feels like two different highlighters based on the application method you choose.

When I originally swatched them on my hand, I was quite annoyed and ready to return them.  However, after actually applying them with a brush to my face, I am delighted with them. I don’t think it’s THEE best highlighter I have ever tried, but it’s one I will definitely reach for often when I want a no- fuss product that I know will blend well and not leave a metallic streak on my face.

One thing I want to note is that I applied my setting spray and let it set in for a couple minutes before I applied the French Vanilla Kylighter. That is how I apply all my highlights because they stick well and are ultra bright on top of lightly moisturized or damp skin.  My friend that also ordered them doesn’t do that method, and she used a fan brush and loved the result.  I’m really happy I went ahead and tried these on my face before attempting to return or sell these, because I think they are a great product.

I’m doing a giveaway of the Strawberry Shortcake Kylighter on Instagram! It’s easy: follow my instagram @kimandmakeup, like the photo, and comment with the strawberry and cake emojis. Tagging a friend in the comments gives you an extra entry. Go to my Instagram and see the Kylighter photo below to read the contest details. Thank you all for reading and let me know if you are planning on trying these.

Great review they look pretty on you😘 maybe it was the shade I got but I definitely think the formula can be better overall 💕

It definitely wasn’t the kind of formula I expect from top of the line illuminators and I won’t be buying more colors.
It is right between drugstore and high end (quality wise) & matches other Kylie Cosmetics products that I’ve tried in terms of quality. I need to stop getting caught up in the hype!
