Oily Skin Foundation Routine

Lately my skin has been extra oily I feel like, so I thought I’d go into how I prep it for applying foundation.  When I don’t take all these seemingly ridiculous amount of steps, in no time I’m looking shinier than ever, even with tons of powders layered on top.

Usually I start my makeup by moisturizing, then eyeshadow, then the rest of my foundation and complexion products, then finish off mascara, liner, and lip products.

I moisturize with Mizon All-In-One, or Cerave lotion. Cerave is more affordable, so I use that the most often.  Mizon is more for special occasions in my mind for some reason.  They both feel lightweight on my skin, which I like for under makeup.  I use heavier moisturizers at night but if you have dry skin they may be really good for you under makeup- Ponds and Egyptian Magic.

Primers

I have quite a few primers that I use depending on the foundation or finish that I’m going for that day.  Since I’ve been extra oily lately, I like to prime with beccacosmetics evermatte or Urban Decay DeSlick. I pat them all over my face.  Then I use smashboxcosmetics spray.  I absolutely love this mist and it could totally be placebo but I feel like it makes a big difference in how my foundation looks and wears throughout the day.  Then I set the primer with rcmamakeup no color powder.  The extra layer or powder before foundation is super helpful for making the foundation stay in place, and I feel like all the moisturizer and matte primers I’ve used are one locked down layer on my face.

Foundation

I apply narsissist Vanuatu natural radiant longwear with the itcosmetics no.7 complexion brush.  This foundation has a beautiful finish. It’s not desert dry- looking matte, and looks healthy rather than cakey.  After that’s all on I move onto concealer. I apply Becca Brightening Corrector with my fingers, then whatever concealer I’m using that day.

To finish off my base before going in with contour, bronzer, blush powders, etc., I douse my foundation and concealer with lorealmakeup infallible spray & go over everything with a damp Sonia Kashuk face sponge to double blend everything and pick up any excess product. I like to set my under eyes with Too Faced Peach Perfect powder- it has a magic quality that makes my under eyes look poreless.  This all sounds like a lot of product, but the thin layers keep it looking light.

If I’m going to be wearing makeup a long time and need to really have it stick, I’ll do another dusting of RCMA powder or sometimes something with more pigment that matches my foundation. From there I move onto the rest of my face makeup. After that I set my whole face with Loreal Infallible setting spray, going over everything again with a sponge to make it not look powdery. Lastly I dust Urban Decay Velvetizer powder. If you’re oily, this powder is so important and keeps me more matte than anything else I’ve tried.

I hope this helps anyone else out there that struggles with how to keep foundation on their oily skin!  I hope you all have a great thanksgiving with friends and family. I’m so thankful you stopped by to read this!
